For me, my happy place is sitting in the sun with my eyes closed, just thinking about all the good things in my life. My happy place is found in creating happy thoughts.
There are many ways you can create your happy place, but here's three easy ones to start:
1. Revisit your good times
Looking back through photos of good times can evoke happiness and take our minds out of the everyday for a while.
I love looking at old family get-togethers or travels that my husband and I have taken. Seeing other people laughing automatically makes you smile and feel better.
2. Breathe and be silent
Take a few moments to breathe slowly and also to be silent.
Let your mind dwell on something or someone that always brings happiness to you. It may be seeing a beautiful beach or sunrise, or for me,thinking of my grandson and the joy he brings to my life.
Earlier this year, I started to to take a few moments of reflection on the good things in my life. It certainly makes me feel happy and ready for the day.
3. Embracing hygge - Create a rela space just for you
The word hygge has been popping up everywhere lately. I had no clue as to what it meant, let alone how to pronounce it. Wikipedia defines hygge as:
Hygge ( or ) is the Scandinavian word for a mood of coziness and comfortable conviviality, with feelings of wellness and contentment. Over recent years, hygge became a defining characteristic of Danish culture.
Hygge is creating a feeling or space of wellbeing -- and everyone can embrace this idea. In fact, some of us probably are already doing it, but didn't know it had a specific name!
Setting up an area at home that is your space (hygge), where you can take time to relax and reflect, could become your happy place. It could be inside or in the garden -- anywhere that makes you feel contented.
Making the space your own with candles, special items that evoke happiness and good memories, or placing a chair in the garden surrounded by beautiful flowers or trees are ways to embrace hygge -- bringing wellbeing and happiness into your day.
Your happy place is anywhere you want it to be -- physically or mentallly or spiritually. The important thing is that we can find our own happy place and improve the quality of our life each day.
