February 6 is an important day in world history. Art, sport, home entertainment and music have all been influenced by the births, deaths and creations of iconic individuals on this day.

Here's a taste: 

  • Alan Shepard plays golf on the moon in 1971.
  • The King of Reggae, musician Bob Marley, was born in 1945.
  • In 1895, US baseball legend Babe Ruth was born.
  • Former Hollywood heartthrob and then-US president Ronald Reagan was born in 1911.
  • Monopoly, the board game, goes on sale in 1935 for the first time.
  • In 1840, The Treaty of Waitangi is signed by 40 Māori chiefs (later signed by 500) and representatives of the British crown in Waitangi, New Zealand. The treaty was designed to share sovereignty between the two groups. 
  • The Kid, starring Charlie Chaplin and Jackie Coogan, is released in 1921.
  • In 1943, Frank Sinatra debuts on radio's Your Hit Parade.
  • Beatles Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr record a tribute to John Lennon (1981) .
